Description

The pipe organ coral is less common in the hobby than it deserves. This unusual soft coral thinks it’s a hard coral, and lays down a spiky reddish-purple skeleton. Each polyp retreats at night into this skeleton. By day, the colony is covered with feathery polyps that sway in the current. They’re generally hardy and suitable for beginners or experienced reefers. They do best in moderate to high light and flow, with plenty of nutrients.

This variety has an unusual color. Most Tubipora colonies are green, but this one is nearly dark blueish purple with a silver fringe on each tentacle. The center of each polyp glows green, a bright spot in the dark background. Its less brightly colored than our Green or Ultra Green Tubipora but maybe even more eye catching, with this contrasting color pattern.

The frag you purchase will come from the same lineage as the image shown, and will have a similar number of polyps, but because of natural variation among frags yours may not look identical to this image.
