Description
Nerites Snails are useful members of the cleanup crew. We carry the so-called Virgin Nerites (Neritina virginea) which feature a wide variety of attractive patterns and colors on their shells.
These small snails consume a variety of nuisance algae including hair algae.
Like most herbivorous snails these do require the presence of algae and can starve if the tank is too clean.
It is normal behavior for these snails to climb out of the water for a period of time, so in some tank configurations it may be possible for them to escape. Plan accordingly, and don’t worry if you see them hanging out above the water line.
