Description
The pipe organ coral is less common in the hobby than it deserves. This unusual soft coral thinks it’s a hard coral, and lays down a spiky reddish-purple skeleton. Each polyp retreats at night into this skeleton. By day, the colony is covered with feathery green polyps that sway in the current.
They’re generally hardy and suitable for beginners or experienced reefers. They do best in moderate to high light and flow, with plenty of nutrients.
The frag you purchase will come from the same lineage as the image shown, and will have a similar number of polyps, but because of natural variation among frags yours may not look identical to this image.
