Description
This is an old classic, an encrusting Porites that is often mistaken for a Montipora. If you examine the polyp structure closely, it’s clearly Porites. In any case, the effect is the same — its a fast-growing, hardy, encrusting coral. This variety has a pale golden base color under white lights, that is faintly fluorescent green under blues. The polyps are bright red, producing a striking spotted appearance under any lighting.
Like all Porites, these do best in moderate to high light and flow. Like any SPS, stability is important for Montis, although they’re generally less sensitive than Acropora and a good starter coral for an SPS tank.
The frag you purchase will come from the same lineage as the image shown, and will be similar in size. However, because of natural variation among frags yours may not look identical to this image.
