Stylophora are some of the hardiest SPS in the hobby, closely related to the Birdnest (Seriatopora) and Cauliflower (Pocillopora) corals. Stylophora forms thicker, more robust branches than its fine-branched cousins, giving it the name “Cats Paw coral”. But of course everyone just calls them Stylos.
Like most SPS, these do best in moderate to high light and flow. They’re much less sensitive than Acropora and a good starter coral for an SPS tank.
This variety is a nice grass green throughout, from the base to the polyps. The base takes on an almost iridescent appearance when they’re healthy. The furry polyps sway in the current, creating a striking effect under white lights or blues.
The frag you purchase will come from the same lineage as the image shown, and will be similar in size. However, because of natural variation among frags yours may not look identical to this image.
